Sketchy Sports Art

Sports photos handpainted on reclaimed wood

Last winter I experimented with sketching photographs on old wooden pool fencing with black craft paint and white house paint.

This is a picture of my college teammate's son who plays college baseball.

It started with a picture of Marylin Monroe and another of Audrey Hepburn. They were my first two portraits and both of them sold in a few weeks.

Facebook is good for taking the temperature of the market to see if there's any interest in what you're working on and if you're on the right track. Friends and friends of friends started contacting me over Facebook with ideas for their own wall art pieces.

Here's one that's a sketch for the head coach of a high school football team in Maryland that had a dream season in 2018 and won states. It was a present from his wife.

Since last winter I have done 22 commissioned sketchy paintings ranging from family portraits to pet photos.

My favorite ones tend to be sports and action shots because there's a lot going on in the picture for just a split second of time.

These portrait examples are about 29" x 22" but they can be sized to order and take about 2 weeks to complete.

Making custom, one-of-a-kind wooden art is what I do. If you're interested in a custom piece you can contact me at or call/text me at 717.342.9557 and we can talk about making something unique for you.
